OSCE at KRRiT
On 11 March, a meeting with representatives of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) took place at the seat of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT). The meeting was related to the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Poland.
The aim of the meeting was to communicate information on regulator tasks and responsibilities arising from the election campaigns conducted by radio and television broadcasters before the elections to the office of the President and to Parliament.
The guests were interested in issues related to both the regulations included in the Electoral Code and the Broadcasting Act as well as their practical application.
KRRiT representatives provided detailed information on the analyses and monitoring being conducted regarding the election campaigns of the largest radio and television broadcasters, which normally take place during a period of two weeks preceding each election. Issues related to the number and type of complaints and their method of investigation were brought up. It was emphasized that during the election campaign period KRRiT monitors in particular whether the highest journalistic standards are being observed.
The OSCE meets with representatives of the Polish Parliament and national government offices, broadcasters, political parties and non-governmental organizations. The result of the discussions is a report containing recommendations on potentially sending observers from organizations monitoring the course of the election campaign.
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is an international organization whose aim is to prevent conflicts in Europe. Fifty-seven countries belong to the organization, and in addition to European nations its membership also includes the United States and Canada, among others.
